The Shahi Imam of Delhi’s Jama Masjid, Syed Ahmed Bukhari, has triggered a controversy by inviting Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif but leaving out Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the anointment ceremony of his son on November 22.

His 19-year-old son, Shaban, will be anointed as the ‘Naib Shahi Imam’ (Vice Imam) at a ceremony to be conducted at the Jama Masjid that is expected to be attended by leaders from India and abroad. “It is on the basis of personal relations that I have invited Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and as for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, it is for the host of any event to decide who to invite,” Mr. Bukhari told reporters.
