Seven people were killed in an encounter between Gadchiroli police and Naxals in a village in Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra on Friday.

Four Naxalites, two civilians and a Jawan of Maharashtra’s special anti-Naxal force C-60, died in the face-off near Sindesur village in Dhonora division of Gadchiroli, said the Gadchiroli police.

A statement from the office of the Gadchiroli Superintendent of Police said the Naxals fired on a special police team near Sindesur forest. When the police team retaliated the fire, the Naxals managed to escape, taking advantage of thick forest but four Naxals, two civilians and one police jawan died in the firing.

The deceased police jawan has been identified as 41-year-old Govinda Farkade, said the police.
