Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu said on Sunday that other than the Mumbai-Ahmedabad and Mumbai-Delhi routes, semi-high speed trains will soon be introduced on the Delhi-Chandigarh, Chennai-Bengaluru and Vijayawada-Bengaluru routes.
He was speaking at a function in Madgao after laying the foundation stone of two stations at Kadwai and Innanje by remote control. The stations are expected to come up in the next 24 months.
“Semi-high speed trains will not only help people but also save time. Trial run of Telgo, a semi-high speed train, which will be run between Ahmedabad and Mumbai, has been successful,” he said. He further said that with the improvement of tracks of the Konkan Railway, semi-high speed trains will be run between Mumbai and Goa also.
The proposed Kadwai station, which will be constructed at a cost of Rs. 9.75 crore, is located between the Sangameshwar and Aravali road stations in Sangameshwar taluk. The station will benefit about 25 villages in and around the Kadwai station, said a spokesperson of the Konkan Railway.
