Search operations were launched on Wednesday at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, one of the sites of the 26/11 attack, following a threat call from an unidentified person around 5.30 p.m. The control room of the Government Railway Police told TheHindu that the caller told the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), “ Bachana hai to bachalo ” [Save CST if you want]. The mobile was later switched off.
Director-General of Police (DGP) A.N. Roy confirmed that the call was about “some kind of threat” to the CST.
The Railway Protection Force, the Government Railway Police, bomb squad and the dog squad were deployed at the CST and Dadar stations and precautionary measures were put in place, Tukaram Chavan, Railway Police Commissioner, told TheHindu over phone.
“We are trying to locate the caller,” he said. “We have been receiving such calls too often. Recently, we arrested a caller who had issued a threat to the Churchgate and Virar stations. But the offence is non-cognisable.”
The State police control room said an alert was received on Tuesday night for the coastline. Defence Public Relations Officer (PRO) Captain Manohar Nambiar, however, said he was not aware of any fresh alert. “Our surveillance is continuing. We are always monitoring the seafront. An alert only means we have to be a little more careful.”
Mr. Roy said as a general exercise, there were regular warnings for the coast.
