A 10-year-old boy, who was allegedly beaten up by his two teachers at government primary school at Pathakheda in Betul district, succumbed to his injuries at a hospital here, police said on Wednesday.
Aslam Ansari, a class four student, who was admitted to Hamidia Hospital in the city died on Tuesday, they said.
Aslam’s two teachers—— Birju Kumar Sonaria and Vijay Ram Bhagat—— had beaten him up brutally in the school on November 16, following which he suffered critical back bone and neck injuries.
While Birju Kumar has been arrested in this connection, the other accused is still absconding, police said.
According to them, the incident had taken place when Aslam had gone to tell the teachers that somebody had broken a bucket in the school. However, the duo started beating him up, though he told them that he did not break it.
Later, when Aslam told his parents about the incident, they came to his school and asked the teachers why their son was beaten up. The teachers gave Rs 200 to them for his treatment and Aslam was admitted to a government hospital.
Seeing no improvement in Aslam’s health, his parents took him to Nagpur for treatment. However, due to his serious condition, doctors expressed their inability to treat him and he was finally brought to Hamidia Hospital in Bhopal, where he breathed his last on Tuesday, police said.
Police had registered a case in this regard.

Stories of students immolating themselves, students who are made to drink their
own urine, made to eat grass, forced to strip in public, beaten black and blue with
anything and everything that comes handy, getting sexually assaulted by their own
teachers are frequent and wide spread. Tortue has become the new face of our
education system with discrimination and casteism being the other horrendous
retarding forces. Are these not the signs of what is ailing our education system and
the educators?
No body has any right to physically assault any kid including his or her own parents. So teachers job is to train the students for their better future and not for physically assault. The kids are not criminals and teachers have no right to punish the kids neither legally nor illegally. Kids are born to live and teacher job is to teach them and not to kill them.
The general communication code taught in Indian schools are of a
beastly kind. The children are kept at the bottom of the Indian feudal
vernacular indicant codes. At the same time, if such children are
treated with politeness, they understand it to be weakness. The
teaching class is of the abysmal standards, and only can lend low
quality training by which students end up in a pose of servitude to
the teaching class. Most teachers are teachers just for the 'respect'
and pay they get. Their English is also quite poor.
However, in this incident, it may be mentioned that it is a common
thing in most government schools. Even though it is a crime punishable
with life imprisonment to beat a student, the law is a joke. Other
more silly laws are taken up for popular discussion and given more
importance.
As to the 'Right' to 'Compulsory' Education, it is another joke, meant
to feed students as fodder for the livlihood of the teacher class.
Those teachers must be given capital punishments. Its inhuman to kill an
innocent child for just a broken bucket.
