SC lets States frame rules for Pollution Control Boards

The Supreme Court on Friday directed State governments to frame guidelines or recruitment rules within six months for appointment of suitable professionals in State Pollution Control Boards (SPCBs).

It set aside an August 24, 2016 order of the National Green Tribunal laying down guidelines for SPCB appointments, saying it exceeded its jurisdiction.

A Bench of Justices Madan B. Lokur and Deepak Gupta granted liberty to “public spirited individuals” to move the High Court concerned if any ineligible person was appointed.
