French President Nicholas Sarkozy will visit Mumbai along with his delegation on December 7. According to a media advisory issued by a government agency, he will visit the Police Memorial to pay tribute to the policemen who lost their lives during the 26/11 terror attack two years ago. During his day-long stay, he is slated to attend a commemorative function at the Oberoi Hotel and address a business meet at the Taj Mahal Hotel.
According to official sources, the French first couple will stay in the same suite in the Taj which was reserved for the American first couple less than a month ago. The luxurious 4,500 square feet Tata suite will host the couple for less than a day.
Police said all security arrangements had been made for Mr. Sarkozy's safe visit. “Whatever security arrangements are required during a VIP visit have been made,” Rajnish Seth, Mumbai's Joint Commissioner of Police, Law and Order, told The Hindu.
Important agreements are expected to be signed. The most prominent among them is related to the Jaitapur nuclear power plant. French giant Areva may sign an agreement with the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited to set a 9,900 MWe nuclear power plant at Madban in Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra.
