The CBI on Saturday arrested former Union Minister Matang Sinh for his alleged complicity in the multi-crore Saradha scam.

He was charged with criminal conspiracy, cheating and misappropriation of funds. Mr. Sinh had been questioned by the Enforcement Directorate and the CBI on several occasions. His companies had allegedly received Rs. 28 crore from the Saradha Group.

The names of Mr. Sinh and his former wife Manoranjana Sinh had surfaced in the letter addressed to the CBI by chairperson and managing director of the Saradha Group Sudipta Sen. Mr. Sen alleged that Ms. Sinh had wanted to sell her company to him and had taken him to Chennai to meet her advocate Nalini Chidambaram, wife of former Union Minister P. Chidambaram.
