Sanjay Singh, kids locked in battle over Amethi palace

July 27, 2014 03:19 am | Updated 03:21 am IST - LUCKNOW:

Heavy police force has been deployed at Bhupati Bhavan under the Ramnagar Kot police station area in Amethi after Friday’s public drama involving Congress MP Sanjay Singh’s son Anant Vikram Singh, his former wife Garima Singh and his two daughters over the possession of the palace. Bhupati Bhavan is the ancestral palace of the Amethi royal family.

Presently, two rooms in the palace are said to be occupied by Mr. Anant Singh, his mother Garima Singh and two sisters, Mahima and Shaivya. Though the police were stationed at the gate, the cops had great difficulty in preventing his supporters from entering the palace. Mr. Anant Singh is reported to have addressed his “supporters” and asked them to maintain peace.

Meanwhile, a case was registered at the local police station on Saturday against nine persons, including Mr. Anant Singh, and five to seven unknown persons for indulging in violence and loot in the palace. On Friday, an FIR was lodged by Mr. Anant Singh against Ramraj Mishra and eight others for attacking the family and holding them hostage.

High drama prevailed on Friday after Mr. Anant Singh, his mother, wife Sambhavi Singh, son Adhiraj Singh and the sisters reached the palace to find that the main gate was locked. It is alleged that the caretaker of the palace, Ramraj Mishra, his son and their supporters thrashed Mr. Singh’s driver. Mr. Anant Singh and his family members are also reported to have been roughed up. As soon the news spread to the neighbouring villages, Mr. Anant Singh’s supporters reportedly chased away the attackers. Reports said that some supporters of Ameeta Singh, the second wife of Dr. Sanjay Singh, were beaten up by the agitated villagers in Benipur village.
