Sangh-affiliated union to protest before Budget

BMS will hold protests across the country on February 24 against labour reforms

February 08, 2016 12:53 am | Updated 03:08 am IST - NEW DELHI:

In a looming embarrassment to the Narendra Modi government, the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), a labour union affiliated to the RSS, has decided at its national executive in Hyderabad that it will protest the proposed labour reforms and non-fulfilment of its demands before the Union Budget.

“We will hold nationwide protests on February 24,” BMS general secretary Virjesh Upadhyaya told The Hindu on the phone. “We had made 10 demands at our meeting with Finance Minister Arun Jaitley but just one — bonus for workers — has been acted upon. We are also against labour reforms.”

The BMS protest is also being seen as a counter from within the Sangh Parivar to industry pressure for speeding up economic reforms.
