With its elaborate exhibition of classical music instruments, the Sangeet Natak Academi tableau didn’t just win the applause of all present at the Republic Day parade this year but has now also won the best tableau prize.

The Akademi’s tableau showcased musical instruments like the veena, shankha, dumsa, santoor and the tabla — symbolising the rich diversity of Indian culture.

The Sangeet Natak Akademi is under the culture ministry.

Goa, with its tableau highlighting the international film festival, and Chhattisgarh showcasing the 2,500-million-year-old stalagmite caves in Kotumsar won the second and third prize respectively, an official statement said on Friday.

In this year’s parade, there were 21 tableaux — 13 from States and eight from various central government ministries and departments.
