Samajwadi Party dissolves caste-based cells

July 16, 2013 12:43 am | Updated 12:43 am IST - LUCKNOW:

The Samajwadi Party has dissolved all its caste-based frontal organisations and cells with immediate effect. It issued a directive to this effect on Monday.

Party spokesman Rajendra Chaudhary said that barring 14 frontal organisations mentioned in the party’s constitution, all units had been dissolved. Among the units dissolved are the Samajwadi Party Brahmin Sabha, the Samajwadi Party Pichhra Varg (Backward Classes) Sabha, the Samajwadi Party Baudhik Sabha and the Samajwadi Party Viklang Sabha. Mr. Chaudhary said traders’ organisations with the prefix Samajwadi Party also ceased to exist.

The directive was issued by national general secretary Ram Gopal Yadav. The decision comes in the wake of the Allahabad High Court decision banning caste-based rallies.

On Sunday, Bahujan Samaj Party president Mayawati decided to do away with caste-based rallies and instead organise sarv samajik bhaichara (common brotherhood) sammelans.
