The South Asia Foundation (SAF), a not-for-profit association that operates in India and the seven other countries of the SAARC community, has decided to further the goals of women’s education and empowerment by pledging $1 million to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco).

The contribution will be announced on October 16 during a meeting of Unesco’s Goodwill Ambassadors in Paris. The money was pledged in a letter sent to Director-General Irina Bokova by France Marquet, a trustee of the South Asia Foundation. Ms. Marquet will be travelling to Paris from the south of France to present the cheque.
