Sabir Ali, whose membership in the BJP was annulled on Saturday, less than 24 hours after he joined the party, on Sunday sought an apology from the BJP’s Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi for linking his name with Indian Mujahideen co-founder Yasin Bhatkal.

There is no mention of Mr. Ali in the NIA’s record of interrogation of Mohammad Ahmed Zarar Siddibapa, the alleged Indian Mujahideen commander also known as Yasin Bhatkal. There is, however, a mention of an unconnected “Maulvi Sabir”— a reference to Shabbir Gangoly, a Bhatkal-area cleric now facing trial for his alleged role in motivating IM’s founding members.
