Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Thursday accused the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh of killing Mahatma Gandhi.
“The RSS shot Mahatma Gandhi and now they are using his name to campaign for elections,” the Congress leader said at a rally here.
Accusing the BJP of spreading the fascist ideology of Germany and Italy, he said: “The Congress professes the ideology of this soil, the ideology of people. We bind people. Our ideology is inspired by the Bhagavadgita.”
Unlike the BJP, he said, the Congress believed in inclusive politics. “The Opposition triggers conflicts, whether it’s between religions, castes or States. All our policies in the last 10 years have been inclusive, benefiting every Indian.”
Mr. Gandhi claimed that the BJP, which talked of India Shining, never addressed the poor. “The people of this country take the nation on the path of development. We must listen to poor people.”
The Congress leader said: “From the Green Revolution to IT boom, all this was done after taking people’s opinion. We could not have done anything without people’s participation.”
He gave the people credit for the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme and the Food Security Act.
