Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday announced a Rs.125-crore relief for the flood-ravaged Leh from the Prime Minister's Relief Fund.
Dr. Singh, who arrived in Leh on a daylong visit, also announced Rs.1 lakh as ex-gratia for the kin of those who killed and Rs.50,000 for the injured.
Speaking to the victims at a camp, Dr. Singh said the purpose of his visit was to share his pain with the Ladakh people. He would visit the victims again before winter and their homes would be rebuilt within two-and-half months.
The rehabilitation of the affected people, whose houses were completely damaged, would be undertaken jointly by the Centre and State government and the Leh Hill Development Council before winter. The restoration of hospitals and CT scan units, drinking water and electricity supply and road connectivity would be carried out under Un-tied Funds (Un-tied Funds are not earmarked for a specific purpose and can be utilised for any exigency).
Dr. Singh also held a meeting with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and officials.
