With less than a week to go before the Assembly election in Nagaland, Home Minister Imkong L. Imchen was detained in the Wokha district early on Monday morning after a huge cache of arms and cash worth Rs. 1.1 crore were recovered from the vehicle he was travelling in, officials said.
“The Minister was travelling on the highway between Kohima and Wokha in an entourage of three vehicles when he was stopped at a checkpoint by personnel of the Assam Rifles as about 6.15 a.m. When the personnel found arms, ammunition, cash and liquor in the vehicle, he was detained,” Wokha district commissioner R. Vysan told The Hindu over telephone.
Mr. Vysan said five 7.65 mm pistols, two .303 rifles, 180 rounds of ammunition and 11 bottles of liquor were recovered along with cash of Rs.1.1-crore.
