Even as another video surfaced of sisters Puja and Arti taking on eve-teasers and thrashing them — this time in a park – the Haryana Police, probing the November 28 incident of misbehaviour with the girls and a pregnant woman on a State transport bus, said they had a watertight case against the three accused, who have since been released on bail.
An investigating officer in Rohtak told The Hindu on Tuesday that a case was registered under Section 354 of the Indian Penal Code for assault or criminal force on woman with intent to outrage her modesty on the basis of a complaint filed by the girls.
While some village elders of Asan village — to which the three accused belong — claimed that a Haryana police constable was also travelling by the same bus and his statement would be highly credible in establishing the sequence of events, the police said they were not aware of any such person.
After Deepak, Kuldeep and Mohit were arrested, a delegation of the Asan panchayat went to the office of the Superintendent of Police and demanded a ‘fair probe,’ threatening to go on a hunger strike if this was not done.
Residents of Asan village fear that the police case would destroy the career of the boys. The accused had done ‘no wrong’ and as the video ‘showed’ it was the girls who were “aggressive.”
The delegation also claimed that the fight took place over a seat that was allotted to an elderly woman. They demanded that her statement be also recorded. They said she got off at Humayunpur. Later the woman, identified as Nirmala, was traced, and her statement was recorded.
PTI reports:
When contacted about the new video, one of the sisters said the incident took place about a month ago. She and her sister were coming out of the Rohtak bus-stand when some youths teased them. When they went to the HUDA park nearby, some other youngsters teased them. They confronted the boys and one of the sisters beat them up and they ran away.
