After a six-year-long court battle, Rohit Shekhar heaved a sigh of relief on Tuesday when the Delhi High Court decreed him to be the biological son of Congress leader N.D. Tiwari.

“It is not only my victory and that of my mother, but also of those mothers and their children born out of unconventional relationships,’’ Mr. Rohit told The Hindu immediately after the decree was passed by Justice Rajiv Sahai Endlaw.

Mr. Rohit also demanded deletion of terms like ‘concubine,’ ‘bastard,’ ‘keep’ and ‘unchaste’ from the law books. Justice Endlaw passed the decree ex-parte on the basis of newspaper reports which said Mr. Tiwari had accepted Mr. Rohit as his biological son.

Mr. Tiwari had earlier accepted Mr. Rohit as his son following the rejection of his proposal for an out-of-court settlement.
