Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Samajwadi Party (SP) today sought the dismissal of Army Chief Gen. V. K. Singh for making public his reported letter to the Prime Minister expressing concern over the state of preparedness of the Army with RJD chief Lalu Prasad advising him to remain within the limits.

“He (General) should be sacked immediately. Why he was silent all these days if there was shortage of ammunition,” the RJD chief asked while talking to reporters outside Parliament.

Describing the Army Chief as a “frustrated” man, he said, “It seems the General wants to fight elections. If there are any issues concerning the forces then he should have taken the Defence Minister into confidence. There is a huge investment on defence forces.”

RJD chief further said, “He should remain within his limits.”

Terming the development as very “serious and sensitive”, Samajwadi Party leader Ram Gopal Yadav also demanded sacking of the Army Chief.

“People always have faith in our forces. It is a very serious and sensitive issue as far as the letter is concerned which states that 97 per cent of our ammunition is not good”, the SP leader said.

He said responsibility should be fixed for the leakage of the letter and whoever is responsible, action should be taken against him.

“If Army Chief is responsible for it, which prima facie suggests... he should be sacked immediately. If this kind of indiscipline grows in Army then it will be a dangerous trend for the country.”

However, Mr. Yadav said the development is also a sign of weak leadership.

Expressing concern, Janata Dal (United) leader Sharad Yadav said, “It has never happened in the last 63 years. We are very concerned over the development. This is a very serious issue and whatever is happening is not good.”

If Lalu and Mulayam can ask for sacking of Army Chief then I think I have every right to ask for the arrest of both these men.

The leak of the letter written to PM by the Army Chief is a very serious matter, more serious than the bribe story. How the letter was leaked must be probed. Govt. should not behave like Kumbhakarna at least on this issue.

I do not want to comment on RJD, SP demand for the Chief's ouster. They may have their own views because we are a democracy.

The other day Defence Minister Antony informed the Parliament that in the absence of a written complaint about the bribe offer, he was helpless. But before making this statement he had ordered a CBI probe. Had he a written complaint in his hand? No. So he could have ordered the probe then and there (i.e. when the Chief reported to him of the bribe offer). But then he acted like a Kumbhakarna. He may be a saint. That is ok. But that is not enough. He is our Defence Minister presiding over some 3 departments. He cannot act like a Kumbhakarna when complaints come to him, oral or written. He should have acted. In not acting in time, he has done some disservice to the nation.

It is the man behind the machine that weighs the battle.Gen Singh should
also comment about the quality of defence manpower below him.We may seek the report of the soldier quality of Singh from his counterparts in Europe and UK.

The Army Chief's bribe row and other seems to be true. As now a days we see that all politicians earn billions just in five years which is much more then their known income sources. No one asks them that how they got that much in such a short period. Lalu's comment that Army Chief wants to contest election is very astonishing. If criminals could become MPs/MLAs/others then why not a general. We need meritorious person lead the country not the cowboys. As we all know that British made Churchill English Prime Minister during the World War. Why not we make a army/air force/navy man turned politician a defense minister so that he could understand the problems faced by a soldier in extreme.

Appears that the devil quoting the bible. It is very interesting that Lalooji himself a scamster in the fodder scam while he was the Chief Minister in the state of Bihar and against whom that a charge sheet was filed by the CBI recently now demanding removal of Mr.Singh for the fiasco seems Pot calling Kettle black. However,a honest officer like Mr.Singh should not have aired his views publicly on such an important issue.

The government should first find out how far the contents of the general's letter are correct and take remedial action to set the state of affairs right, instead of panicking and trying to find scapegoats. It is quite possible the general pointed out the sorry state of affairs to the relevant authorities earlier, and only repeated it in the letter to the Prime Minister. The right thing to do is to correct the deficiencies instead of trying to find out who let the cat out of the bag and trying to punish him.

Its a national shame that people like Mulayam who is a criminal and Lalu
whose only expertise seems to be one liners get to set national policy,
including whether the Army Chief, a most erudite person and a person of
integrity, can continue.

Mr lalu prasad would have been ok if General singh accepted the bribe
and had kept the nation in dark. The problem is that politicians like
lalu and mulayam has done nothing good for the country accept creating
chaos in the country and if somebody try to crusade against corruption
he is either labeled as right wing(team anna)or in case of army chief

There should be a proper permanent judicial commission to look into all kinds of military 'Deals'. We are hearing a lot from the media about army officers getting involved in all kinds of shoddy deals like adarsh scam, army recruitment scam, alleged 14cr scam, land allocation scam, alleged diversion of military explosives to Hindu militants (colonel Purohith case) etc. Accountability of military is paramount our nations security.

The Army Chief should not have aired his problems in public but at least seems to be a very honest officer. The same cannot be said of those politicians who are now clamouring for his dismissal. Criminals have entered into politics in a big way and it is these criminal politicians who are responsible for current state of affairs where rampant corruption prevails in the country.

RJD, SP foundation started with corruption. Dismissing of army chief
does not solved the problem raised by him. this country is in the
serious grip of corruption from every corner.RJD chief and SP chief
must understand that they are promoted corruption in BIHAR and
uttarpradesh. They have no moral right to question the army chief.Men in uniform dye in war. Why do not they send their son and daughter in armed forces to fight with terrorist and enemy face to face. For the god sake control leaders of different party for the betterment of the nation.

It looks like he wants to fight against the defence minister who was not ready to accept general's latest 'Date of Birth' & eventually general lost the case in the court as well. Glad to see that
all political parties cutting across the party lines have condemned Army Chief's letter to PM. No one can question A K Antony's credibility as defence minister/honest politician. & He is the poorest MP in the present Lok Sabha.

It is the fodder scam Lalu's that are to targeted and not honest persons who want to
take on vested interest groups. We should completely dismiss the existing Lok Sabha
and Rajya Sabha members and call for clean elections with new rule for MPs and
MLAs which stipulate any body involved in criminal activities and corruption activities
can not contest elections. Essential election funding to be transparent as in many
other mature democracies. Fight on General the nation is with you and dismantle the
corrupt cartel...

How much hue and cry these netas can create! Kicking up so much dust to cover up the real issue of corruption and unaccountable processes of procurement, isn't it?

50 Years back, PM Nehru with FM Krishna Menon kept the country in the dark about our Border with China. We were rudely awakened by
bitter Defeat. Those who dont learn from History are condemned to repeat it! The General is giving us the Wakeup CALL!! AS far as lallu, Mulayam and others are concerned, the less said about them, the better.

Are these visiting Professors of Harvard aware that since Nehru's days, it is the Netas that run the armed forces through their Babus and that the command and control structure and integrity of the armed forces has been compromised in the image of the nation it serves? All procurement is carried out for the benefit of Netas, Babus and treacherous, compliant military officers. The Army Chief deserves the Ashoka Chakra AND Bhartha Rathna for taking on the enemy of the Nation: The Sleaze at the Top.
