The State Human Rights Commission on Wednesday sought a report from the city’s Commissioner of Police on the status of investigations into the alleged gang-rape of a 37-year-old woman in a moving vehicle in the Park Street area in February last year.
The Commission has taken suo motu cognisance of the comments made by Trinamool Congress MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar about the victim and sought a report from the Police Commissioner on the status of the case, said Sujoy Haldar, joint-secretary of the commission.
“The Commissioner of Police has been asked to keep in mind the expeditious manner in which the Delhi rape case has been investigated and submit his report in three weeks,” Mr. Haldar said.
He was referring to the gang-rape of a 23-year-old woman in a moving bus in Delhi on December 16. All the accused in the incident have been arrested and a fast track court set up to hear the matter on a day-to-day basis.
The commission asked the police to obtain the footage from the television interview where Dr. Dastidar had made derogatory remarks about the 37-year-old mother of two who was allegedly raped, he added.
