Over 50 hours of efforts by 500 rescue personnel failed to save the life of six-year-old Kaveri, stuck in a borewell at the Jhunjarwad village of Belagavi district. She fell into it accidentally on Saturday.

Kaveri was declared dead late on Monday after her body was lifted from the well and examined by doctors. The family, waiting by the borewell, was inconsolable.

Kaveri fell into the disused borewell on Saturday around 5 p.m. She was stuck at a depth of 24 feet in the 400-ft-deep borewell.

Worst fears

On Monday, rescuers locked her arm with a rope to prevent her from slipping down further. However, visuals from the camera in the borewell did not capture any movement, leading to apprehensions about her well-being.

As the rescue operation dragged on, the worst fears appeared to be coming true. Soon, the tragedy was confirmed.
