Dismissing media reports that the Taj Mahal was in danger of collapse, the government on Tuesday said scientific studies done by premier institutes have reinforced the fact that the 17th century Monument of Love is “quite stable.”
Union Culture Minister Kumari Selja said the reports about the monument did not have any “scientific basis.”
Studies conducted by the Archaeological Survey of India, Survey of India and Central Building Research Institute have concluded that the Taj Mahal, including its four minarets, is “quite stable” in plan and elevation, Ms. Selja told the Lok Sabha in a written reply.
She was responding to a question on media reports, especially in foreign newspapers, that the Taj Mahal was in danger.
The Minister said conservation work at the Taj Mahal was an ongoing process and those were being attended to continuously depending upon the need of repairs and availability of resources.
“The monument is regularly monitored by conducting essential studies,” she said.
