The Hindu A file photo of the Parliament House. Media reports on irregularities in coal ministry caused several repeated adjournment of both the Houses.

Parliament was on Thursday rocked by reports of an alleged coal scam to the tune of Rs 10.7 lakh crore with the Opposition forcing adjournment of both the Houses till noon.

As soon as the Lok Sabha met for the day, JD (U) members were on their feet demanding immediate discussion on a report of the Comptroller and Auditor General on allocation of 155 coal acreages between 2004 and 2009 to some 100 companies.

The moment Speaker Meira Kumar called for the Question Hour, BJP and JD(U) members trooped into the Well raising slogans against the government.

Yeh Sarkar Kaali Hai (This government has been tarnished)” the opposition members chanted in the Well.

With members unrelenting, the Speaker adjourned the House till noon.

Similar scenes were witnessed in the Rajya Sabha where Prakash Javadekar (BJP) said he had given notice for suspension of Question Hour to discuss the alleged scam.

“Sorry, the Question Hour cannot be suspended,” Chairman Hamid Ansari said.

“You cannot raise the issue without the permission of the Chair,” Minister of State in PMO V. Narayanasamy said.

As members continued to raise the issue and waved copies of a newspaper, Mr. Ansari said members cannot raise “unsubstantiated matters.”

“No newspapers are allowed. You cannot display banners. Please sit down. You cannot raise matters in this manner. You can raise it later, this is not the time,” he told the agitating members.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was present in the Rajya Sabha.

Mr. Javadekar said the Prime Minister was in-charge of coal portfolio when the alleged scam took place.

Amid din, Mr. Ansari adjourned the Rajya Sabha for 15 minutes.

When the House met again, similar scenes were repeated and the proceedings were adjourned till noon.

Mamata Ji wouldn't care about these big scams, but makes hue and cry about nominal price hike of railway charges which is acceptable to all

The government did not confer the "Bharat Ratna"this year. If anyone deserved this award, it is non other than Mr Vinod Rai, the Comptroller & Auditor General of India for exposing the 2G Spectrum Mega Scam to the Nation. Now, the exposure of coal mining scam by CAG only confirms how richly he deserved this honor. It is not easy even for a Constitutional Authority to pursue such cases, when the government itself is behind its cover up. Also, without the relentless perseverance of Mr Prashant Bhushan, leading to Supreme Court directly monitoring 2G scam investigations, its gravity would not have been known to the public at large. He too should have been decorated suitably for outstanding public service. The Congress led UPA government would have redeemed its credibility to a great extent, had it conferred these awards to them, thereby also implying that it is totally against corruption. Now, it has lost all its credibility including its right to rule, along with its legacy of 125 year.

Political opportunism at its worst by bjp. They have already got another
excuse to disrupt house in this session. Atleast parties should wait
for the final report to be tabled. On a lighter note, the way CAG is
working, tomorrow we might have a report saying "100 lac crore loss due
to non-auctioning of Domestic Water" !

UPA Government must study the CAG report and answer all the points on the floor of the house and take opposition parties into confidence and at the same time opposition parties should not disturbed the proceeding of the house and waste precious public money and time.

I Have no words to reveal on the topic. And i am really bitterly disappointing that these swindlers are robbed the country as a daily routine.some time i feel that whether it is a democratic country or not. These devastating peoples have forgotten the sacrifices of the legend devotes of the country. Even they have no fear of the good.It is really a sombre & very tragic conditions. Now it is time to change the rules of election processor. There must be an option whereby we can reject all the candidates (if not suitable according to us.Otherwise if they thief decline the Indian treasury like this so it is for that in the coming few years were be very crucial for the Economic Growth.
eventually it is not enough to accuse some one rather than recover the whole amount and cancel the election ticket for all time.

most of the scams that this coalition government has been accused of
have indicted either the prime minister or his core group of ministers
in one way or another. though it is likely that they may not be involved
with malignant intentions, still the fact remains that this UPA
government is perhaps the most mismanaged government in the history of
India. rampant with confusion, escapism in matters where the blame has
to be taken and an impotency in taking proper measures at the right time
have been missing. o mother nature save us from the lame commander!
