The sport of cricket is bigger than any individual and very stringent law is necessary to root out spot-fixing and betting from the game, BJP vice-president Smriti Irani has said.

At a press conference at the party headquarters here on Wednesday, she hoped the investigation into the recent scandal would culminate in the guilty being brought to justice and cleansing of the game. “There is need to remove the scar on cricket and restore its dignity,” Ms. Irani, who is in-charge of the party in Goa, said.

She denied that the BJP, which was vocal about corruption, was silent on spot-fixing and corruption in the administration of cricket.
