Release of film on Indira killers faces hurdles

August 21, 2014 02:23 am | Updated November 16, 2021 05:42 pm IST - Chandigarh:

Uncertainty surrounds the scheduled release on Friday of the Punjabi film Kaum de Heere (Diamonds of the Community), based on the lives of Satwant Singh and Beant Singh, assassins of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Union Home Ministry officials watched the film in Delhi on Sunday, given the sensitive nature of the storyline.

Leela Samson, Chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification, will view it on Thursday, director Ravinder Ravi said. “When the Board has cleared the film with cuts, I fail to see why there is such a hullabaloo over it now,” he said. With bookings starting in cinemas, producers and distributors stand to lose money if it was pulled out at this stage, he said. The film has already been released abroad.
