“I plan surprise visits to villages to check on the implementation of relief measures for drought.”
Those were the last words of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy during an interaction with the media on Tuesday before he boarded the helicopter which crashed in the Nallamala Hills, 70 kms from Kurnool, more than an hour after take off from the old Begumpet Airport here.
Dr. Reddy (60) said he planned surprise visits to the drought-hit villages and did not want to give any notice until the last moment.
“I want to check the delivering mechanism in villages. I want to check all the problems like drought and unemployment and check if all the policies have been implemented”, he said.
Dr. Reddy, who had been crisscrossing the state clocking over 100 flying hours in the last four months, said he planned to go to 2-3 villages every month and check the progress of implementation of the policies.
Maintaining a hectic schedule, Dr. Reddy had tried to ensure that he was present to kick off small or big welfare projects in the state and made it a point to personally check the progress thereafter.
