The former Director-General of the Border Security Force (BSF), E. N. Rammohan, was on Thursday appointed to conduct an inquiry into the circumstances leading to the ambush of the platoons of two companies of the CRPF's 62nd Battalion earlier this week by Maoists, in which 76 personnel were killed.

Report in 15 days

Mr. Rammohan has been asked to submit a report within 15 days, a Home Ministry order said. He has been given eight points of reference, which includes determining the sequence of events leading to the incident, analysing and establishing the decision, command structure and hierarchy and the specific levels that took relevant decisions concerning the Area Domination (Operations) and leading to the incident.

The inquiry will also examine the quality of the training imparted to the relevant companies of the CRPF and details of the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) issued to the company.
