Yoga guru Baba Ramdev is carried on a stretcher to be taken to a hospital on the seventh day of his hunger strike in Haridwar on Friday.

The condition of the fasting yoga guru Ramdev remains stable, but his blood pressure is fluctuating and he has been advised to start eating immediately, Deepak Goel of the Himalayan Institute Hospital Trust (HIHT) hospital, Jolly Grant, near here, said on Saturday.

Talking to journalists, Dr. Goel ruled out the possibility of Ramdev slipping into a coma. It would not happen all of a sudden in such cases. “Ramdev is under expert medical supervision and we can give him IV nutrition if necessary.” Dr. Goel, however, ruled out force-feeding. “If the need arises, we will inform the district administration that Ramdev has refused to take food despite medical advice and they will take necessary action.”

Dr. Goel also ruled out discharging Ramdev now. For, a patient with fluctuating blood pressure had to be kept under expert medical supervision. Ramdev's blood pressure had fluctuated four times over the past 12 hours.

Ravi Shankar calls on Ramdev again

Spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar called on Ramdev on Saturday also. “Swami Ramdev is quite stable but has not accepted my appeal to end the fast. But I am like his elder brother and he will have to agree to my request,” he said.

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar denied that he was acting on behalf of the Union government.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, who called on Ramdev, told journalists that he was extremely worried as people with fluctuating blood pressure could go into a coma. He appealed to Ramdev to end the fast.

Ramdev's supporters raised anti-government slogans and performed ‘havan' outside the hospital.

The yoga guru has been on fast since June 4 seeking an end to corruption and bringing back black money stashed away in foreign banks. He was shifted to the hospital after becoming semi-conscious at his satyagraha venue at Patanjali Yogpeeth in Haridwar on Friday evening.
