The Election Commission has made elaborate arrangements for the biennial poll to the Rajya Sabha in four States on Friday covering 18 seats.
Four Chief Electoral Officers of other States have been appointed as Special Observers of the Commission for the poll in Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Odisha, and West Bengal, covering 18 seats.
The election for six seats in Andhra Pradesh, five in West Bengal, four in Odisha and for three seats in Assam will be held in the respective State Legislative Assembly premises where the MLAs have to vote. It will be held between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. and the counting of votes taken up on Friday at 5 p.m.
As many as 37 candidates from 12 States have already been declared elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha in one of the biggest biennial poll currently being held for 55 seats in 16 States.
The States where the poll is completed are: Maharashtra (seven seats), Tamil Nadu – six, Bihar – five, Gujarat – four, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan – three each, Haryana, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand – two each and Himachal Pradesh, Manipur and Meghalaya – one each.
