Slamming the CBI for the slow pace of investigation in the Bhanwari Devi case, the Rajasthan High Court today gave the investigating agency 10 days to submit its progress report in the matter.

Pointing out to the Arushi Talwar case in Noida, the division bench of the court here comprising Govind Mathur and N.K. Jain said the “credibility of the agency was at stake and it should speed up the investigation”.

The CBI had sought four weeks time to submit its investigation report but the court gave 10 days time.

Observing that the investigation in the matter was slow, the court asked the agency to expedite the investigation.

Meanwhile, a CD purportedly showing former minister Mahipal Maderna and nurse Bhanwari Devi, which was shown on a news channel, was sent to the high court registrar by the channel.

The court said the CD was received by post and asked the CBI to take it if it would be useful in the investigation.

The next hearing in the case will be on November 24.

The CBI has questioned Mr. Maderna, who was removed from Cabinet by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on October 16 after his name cropped up in the case.
