Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Friday asserted that Union Telecom Minister A. Raja was not guilty in the 2G spectrum allocation issue.

“When Pramod Mahajan [September 2001-January 2003] and Arun Shourie [January 2003-May 2004] were Ministers [in the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government], tenders were not invited. What was adopted during their ministership was followed in the case of the 2G spectrum allocation too. The allocation was made on the first-come, first-served basis. There was no wrong allocation,” he told journalists here.

When told that Mr. Raja had been indicted in the CAG report, Mr. Karunanidhi replied that opinion could be offered only after the release of the report. The CAG could find fault with anyone. But that alone could not be considered final.
