In an embarrassing slip of tongue during an election rally at Nilanga recently, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena president Raj Thackeray appealed to the electorate to vote for the bow and arrow, the symbol of rival party Shiv Sena.
More than eight years ago, Raj Thackeray had defected from the Shiv Sena, a party formed by his uncle Balasaheb Thackeray. Mr. Raj had formed the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena which was allotted the symbol of 'railway engine' by the Election Commission.
Recently, during a huge rally held at Nilanga in Latur district of Marathwada region, Raj Thackeray quickly corrected the fumble and appealed to voters to vote for the railway engine.
"Abhay Salunke is a very old associate. Please make him successful and vote for bow...errr...railway engine in the coming elections," he said in the rally held on October 4.
A part of the video clip went viral on Tuesday. The video clip was forwarded on WhatsApp, Facebook and Twitter. On Facebook, Shiv Sena supporters uploaded the link claiming that Raj Thackeray too wanted Shiv Sena to win now.
On a Facebook page called '2014 sali bhagva fadkavnarch ', the Sena supporters took a dig at Raj Thackeray and said he finally spoke his heart out after years. "Whatever is there in your heart, finds its way to your lips...Raj Thackeray says vote for bow and arrow," the post posted on Monday stated.
