Rain chokes Mumbai traffic

July 11, 2014 12:12 pm | Updated 12:13 pm IST - MUMBAI:

Non-stop heavy rainfall in Mumbai from Friday morning disrupted rail and road traffic as many parts of the city and suburbs became water-logged.

Normal life could remain out of gear as high-tides are expected during the course of the day.

Mumbai’s suburban local trains on all three lines -- Central, Western and Harbour were running late by more than 30 to 40 minutes.

Various areas in Mumbai such as Hindmata, Dadar, Matunga, Kurla, some parts of LBS road faced water logging, which brought the traffic to complete halt. Many BEST buses had to be diverted.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Colaba received 101.0 mm and Santa Cruz received 47.8 mm rainfall in last 24 hours ending at 8.30 am.

According to IMD, the city is likely to receive heavy rainfall in the next two days.
