Railways on Wednesday cancelled as many as 19 trains till January 31 in view of the prevailing foggy weather conditions in North India.

The decision came as poor visibility again hampered train movement, with over three dozen trains arriving here several hours behind schedule and 16 trains being rescheduled on Wednesday.

Sources in the Northern Railway said “leaves and weekly rest” of all commercial staff have been cancelled for the coming fortnight “keeping in mind the gravity of the situation.”

Trains cancelled till January end include New Delhi—Sitamarhi Lichchvi Express, Lucknow—Saharanpur Express, Katihar—Amritsar Express, Jhansi—Lucknow Intercity express and Gaya—New Delhi Mahabodhi express.

The cancelled trains also include Amritsar—Howrah Express, Amritsar—Jaipur Express, Varanasi—Jodhpur Marudhar Express and Allahabad—Saharanpur Marudhar Express among others.

Sources said drivers have been issued fresh instructions to exercise maximum caution while running the train during dense fog and not to exceed train speed beyond 30 kmph.
