The Railway recruitment examination will be conducted in Urdu also.
“Till now it was conducted in English and Hindi. I have now made Urdu compulsory along with other regional languages,” Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Wednesday. The decision would help youth of Jammu and Kashmir, she said speaking at a public meeting here.
Urdu is the official language of the State.
The recruitment examination would be held the same day throughout the country to benefit people from all States.
The Minister announced that railway concessions for schools would be extended to senior and higher madrasas.
Also, the requirement of submitting postal orders along with the application forms was removed for minority community women and economically backward classes. A non-stop train would be run from Jammu to Delhi. A second platform would be provided at Jammu.
Responding to a demand from Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad that the package of employment be extended to all those who have given land for the Railways, she said, “We will look into that.”
Problem in Kashmir
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said the problem in Kashmir was linked to politics and it should be addressed only in that context.
“We are ready to support the government of India in engaging political persons to make the process a success. We need peace so that wounds of 20 years are healed.” Union Renewable Energy Minister Farooq Abdullah and Mr. Azad spoke. Governor N.N. Vohra, and the former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed were present.
