Rail safety staff can make way for children

In a bid to encourage railway employees involved in train safety, Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday announced a scheme that would allow them to nominate their children for their posts if he or she is forced to leave the job halfway on any ground. “If any employee working as a pointsman, gangman, traffic porter of holding a related post thinks that he cannot continue in the job for any reason, say on medical grounds, he can nominate his son or daughter who need not go through the usual examination process.” She was laying the stone for a nursing college at the South Eastern Railway headquarters here.
