With the Congress facing a string of electoral defeats since the Lok Sabha election, senior leader Digvijaya Singh on Saturday once again pushed for party vice-president Rahul Gandhi to take “full-time” leadership of the organisation, though it had distanced itself from a similar suggestion he made just a month ago.
“All Congressmen today want Rahul Gandhi to take over full leadership of the All India Congress Committee,” he told presspersons here.
He, however, at the same time said Congress president Sonia Gandhi would continue to remain “our leader.”
Noting that under Ms. Gandhi’s leadership, the party went on to form governments in 14 States from just two at one point of time and stormed to power at the Centre in 2004 and again in 2009, he said, “But now the time has come for Rahul Gandhi to take charge of the party. All Congressmen will support him.”
