Rahul Gandhi rushes to Rae Bareli to meet NTPC accident victims

Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi is flying from Surat in Gujarat to Rae Bareli to meet victims of NTPC plant accident in which 18 people have been killed while over one hundred injured in a blast.

Mr. Gandhi is in Gujarat as part of his three-day Navsarjan Yatra ahead of the Assembly polls in the State. However, he decided to visit his mother’s constituency in wake of unfortunate accident in the power plant. Congress president Sonia Gandhi who represents Rae Bareli in Parliament.

“Due to the unfortunate NTPC accident, I will visit Rae Bareli tomorrow morning. Will join Gujarat Navsarjan Yatra in the afternoon,” he tweeted after addressing last meeting in a village near Surat.

Earlier, Ms. Gandhi in her condolence message stated that due to her bad health, she was not in position to visit her constituency to meet the victims.

Expressing her condolences to the victims of the NTPC boiler accident, Ms. Gandhi, in a statement said, “In your hour of crisis, I stand by you and pray for the speedy recovery of the injured. I wanted to come personally and share your grief but unable to do so as I am not well. I express my sympathies and condolences to the affected families.”
