A defeatist attitude, which manifested itself in the reluctance of many senior leaders to contest the polls, the perceived appeasement of minorities and the powerful Modi campaign are said to be among the various reasons cited by the Antony Committee for the “abysmally” poor showing by the Congress in the recent Lok Sabha elections.

There was no official word on the findings and Mr. Antony refused to disclose details after the Independence Day celebrations at the Congress headquarters here on Friday morning.

Asked about Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s role in the poll debacle, Mr. Antony said the reasons for the defeat lay elsewhere.
