Russian President Vladimir Putin will visit India on December 24, according to an announcement made by the Kremlin.
During talks with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Mr. Putin will discuss specific steps to further develop the partnership in trade, economic, energy, and cultural and humanitarian spheres, said the statement. “The parties will also exchange views on current issues on the international and regional agendas. It is expected that a number of joint documents will be signed,” it added.
The statement noted the growing economic cooperation with bilateral trade increasing by 30 per cent in January-October ’12 against the same period last year. It made no mention of the close ties in defence, space and civil nuclear sectors but highlighted the cooperation between the two countries at multilateral fora such as the UN, G-20, BRICS, SCO, RIC and EAS.
