Puri Acharya too favours castration, death for rapists

Joining in the demand for stringent punishment for sexual assaults on women, the Shankaracharya of the Puri Peeth on Wednesday called for chemical castration and the death penalty.

“Several incidents of rape and sexual harassment are reported from Delhi as well as from other States every day.” The law should provide for “chemical castration and death sentence for rape,” Sri Nischalanand Saraswati said, adding such provisions, however, should not be misused.

The media should not hype reports of sexual offences, he said.
