The Punjab government will bear all expenses and arrange for the transportation of the bodies of those killed in Sunday’s shooting at a gurdwara in the United States. Six persons were killed in the shooting at Oak Creek, Wisconsin by a lone gunman, who was later shot dead by the police.

Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal will visit the site of the tragedy and meet the authorities to seek measures to prevent any recurrence, according to an official release on Tuesday.

Mr. Badal contacted Indian ambassador Nirupama Rao over telephone and informed her that the Punjab government would extend all help to the bereaved families.

The Chief Minister, who had announced an ex gratia of Rs. 1 lakh to the next of kin of those killed in the attack, called on the families of two victims, Sita Singh and Ranjit Singh, in New Delhi. The deceased were brothers and employed as preachers at the Oak Creek shrine.
