Punjab Governor reviews security in Mohali

Punjab Governor and Administrator, Union Territory of Chandigarh, Shivraj V. Patil, on Monday reviewed the security and other arrangements for the dignitaries coming to the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) Stadium in Mohali on Wednesday to watch the World Cup semifinal between India and Pakistan.

While Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his Pakistani counterpart Yousaf Raza Gilani have confirmed their visits, President Pratibha Patil is also likely to come, sources said.

Directions

Mr. Patil directed the officers concerned to make arrangements for food, stay and to maintain law and order and warned that no excuses would be tolerated.

The meeting was attended by the Additional Secretary, Union Ministry of External Affairs: Adviser to Mr. Patil, Chief Secretaries of Punjab and Haryana; police chiefs of Punjab and Haryana; Inspector-General of Police, UT Chandigarh; Air Officer Commanding, Chandigarh Air Force Station; Deputy Commissioners and SSPs of Chandigarh and Mohali.

At least 40 rooms were vacated in the UT Guest House here to house the VVIPs.
