BJP president Nitin Gadkari today described the blast at German Bakery in Pune as “an unfortunate incident” and said he was rushing there along with Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj to take stock of the situation.

“The Pune blast is an unfortunate incident. Both me and Sushma Swaraj are rushing there (Pune) to meet the victims and take stock of the situation,” Gadkari told reporters at a BJP Mahila Morcha event here.

Swaraj, who was to be honoured at the event for becoming the first woman leader of the opposition, could not attend the function, as she would be visiting Pune soon, he said.

“She felt that it would not be correct to celebrate at a time when people were in a state of shock over the Pune blast,” he added.

However, Gadkari, who arrived over an hour late for the meet due to a party meeting on the Pune blast, refused to answer any further questions from reporters on the incident.
