Social activists on Monday took out a protest march in Patna against suspended IPS officer Sanjeev Bhatt’s arrest by the Gujarat police recently.

Led by eminent educationist Apoorvanand, intellectuals took out the protest march from Akashwani crossing to railway junction and shouted slogans against Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi for seeking to “stifle the voice of those people who have questioned his role in the 2002 riots.”

Addressing protesters, Mr. Apoorvanand said Mr. Bhatt’s arrest was a glaring instance of “misuse” of political power by Mr. Modi to silence his perceived adversaries.

Mr. Bhatt has filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court alleging that Mr. Modi had directed the police brass to go soft on the rioters during the 2002 riots.
