Following the devastating fire at AMRI Hospitals, Dhakuria, the West Bengal government announced on Friday the setting up of two high-level committees to check safety measures in hospitals, nursing homes, schools, colleges, and malls in the city.

“The committees comprising officials of the Fire Services and Disaster Management Group will compile a report every week and submit it to the Chief Minister,” said Javed Ahmed Khan, Minister of Fire and Emergency Services.

The government also set up an investigation team to probe the reasons for the outbreak of the fire.

Kolkata Police Commissioner R. K Pachananda said that the probe team would be led by Joint Commissioner of Kolkata Police Damayanti Sen.

Samples collected

A team of forensic experts led by Dhurjyoti Sengupta, Director, State Forensic Science Laboratory, visited the hospital later in the evening and collected samples from the basement of the hospital.
