Probe stuck as Nagar leaves on ‘pilgrimage’

September 24, 2013 12:27 am | Updated November 16, 2021 09:07 pm IST - Jaipur:

The probe into the rape allegations against former Rajasthan minister Babulal Nagar got stuck after the minister suddenly went missing from his residence here on Monday morning.

A CB (CID) team that went to Mr. Nagar’s house for investigation had to return after a 45-minute wait.

Later, Mr. Nagar’s son Ravi wrote a letter to the police saying his father had gone on a pilgrimage and the police would be informed when he returned. Mr. Nagar’s personal secretary Balvir Singh offered the same explanation to the media.

Meanwhile, the Opposition BJP said the former minister was simply avoiding the medical examination and accused Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot of shielding Mr. Nagar.

“Even the investigating officer in the case was appointed after consultation with Nagar,” BJP spokesperson Kailash Nath Bhatt said here on Monday.

A 35-year-old woman had accused Mr. Nagar, who was then Minister of State, of calling her to his residence on September 11 and raping her.
