Patna serial blast accused Ainul alias Tariq passed away at a hospital in Patna early on Friday morning. He was critically injured when the bomb, he was trying to plant, exploded on Sunday.

“Ainul passed away at 1.10 a.m. He has given a dying declaration,” Jayant Kant, Superintendent of Police, Patna city, told The Hindu . However, the SP did not say if Ainul had confessed to the crime in his declaration.

Ainul, a resident of Ranchi, is listed as an accused in the blast FIR. He was the planter of a bomb in the toilet of the Patna railway station. Ainul was declared arrested on the day after the blast. He suffered a brain injury in the explosion and was admitted to the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, where he was seeking treatment.

The police were not hopeful of his survival. Ainul’s aide Imtiaz Ansari, also the alleged mastermind of the blast, was arrested while fleeing the spot after the explosion. Both were part of the first of the three groups of perpetrators to travel on a bus from Ranchi to Patna on the eve of the attacks to plant bombs at the railway station, as per the police.
