Previous oil spills in Mumbai

June 20, 1997: The ship m.v. Arcadia, carrying 200 tonnes of fuel and diesel, besides 12,700 tonnes of sulphur, sinks near the Mumbai coast causing oil spill.

July 27, 2005: A fire destroys the Mumbai High North processing platform of the ONGC, hitting production of 1,23,000 barrels per day of crude, or 15 per cent of the country's domestic output, and killing 12 people.

December 27, 2009: Oil spills from Bharat Petroleum Corporation's refinery in the Mahul creek damaging marine and avian life, including flamingos.
